Health is not only a product of biology and genetics, but also a product of the environment, resources, and limitations within a community. East New York may currently have some of the worst health statistics in New York State, but this must change. In order to prioritize next steps to meet the health needs of the community, the Rise Up East New York campaign has developed a community-based needs assessment survey.
The survey aims to identify the unmet health needs as perceived by the community members themselves. Feedback from the community will promote a better understanding of specific actions desired by community members to promote opportunities for improved health and better quality of life.
Without involvement from the community, sustainable change will not take place. The Rise Up campaign believes the creative and productive way to solve problems is by unlocking the community’s most valuable resource – it’s people.
